CAN WE REALLY LISTEN TO OUR INNER VOICE?

It was just another Saturday and I was on the way to a local shop to buy groceries for the week ahead. Since the city was on a celebration for one of its biggest festival I could feel the vibes and crowds instantly.
I had been listening to house music through my earphone, but the moment I entered the crowd I was no longer able to hear my music, instead of the noise, crowd and external factors caught my attention.

Later, I was able to realize something from that incident:

The house music I was listening to, it was clear unless I entered the crowd,
The moment I entered the crowd, I was no longer able to listen to it clearly,
And, now if I had to listen to my music,
Either I will have to increase the intensity of my music or I will have to leave the crowd and head towards somewhere peaceful.

So, what does this have to do with the “inner voice” thing?

Above, I have mentioned about “house music”, if we can replace “ house music with “inner voice”, it becomes;

The “inner voice” I was listening to, it was clear unless I entered the crowd,
The moment I entered the crowd, I was no longer able to listen to it clearly,
And now if I had to listen to my “inner voice”,
Either I will have to increase the intensity of my “inner voice” or I will have to leave the crowd and head towards somewhere peaceful.

There’s a saying that “Our inner self is there to help us all the time” so, I think we must be aware of our inner voice and take necessary action to be in tune with it.

EXPECTATIONS V.S REALITY: BUT WHAT IF WE COULD MEET OUR EXPECTATIONS?

Every now and then we hear about “expectations v.s reality” and in most of the cases, reality seems to be completely different from our expectation. But, what if we could convert our expectations into reality and most of all, what if we could meet our expectations?

Here are some of my views on meeting our expectations,

  • BELIEVE

“We don’t believe what we see, we see what we believe”- Dr. Wayne Dyer

The moment we start believing in ourselves that we can convert our expectations into reality, it is then when we start seeing the things falling in our part. So, it is really important for us to believe that anything can be achieved even before it is started.

  • THOUGHTS

Once we believe in ourselves, we now have to align our thoughts with our expectations. Most often our expectation are too high but when it comes to our thoughts, they don’t match. If we have big expectations, it must be backed up with inspiring thoughts. When we can be in harmony with our thoughts we move towards meeting our expectations. It is important to realize that we have complete control over our thoughts. It’s our choice whether to have negative thoughts, be sad or to have a positive thought and be freaking awesome.

  • MASSIVE ACTION

Whatever be our expectations, we must take massive actions. If we keep on taking massive action, there’s a high probability that we can even meet beyond our expectations. It is also important to enjoy the actions we take along the way. As a saying goes “ Massive action leads to massive results”.

  • NEVER GIVE UP

Even if we believe in ourselves, align our thoughts with expectations and take massive actions, sometimes we are unable to meet our expectations as a result we get off the track, we feel like giving up and come up with many excuses. But, if we want to meet our expectations, we must be able to learn from our mistakes, make necessary changes, keep moving and never ever give up. A quieter never wins and a winner never quiets.

  • PATIENCE

In this new era of technology where everything is happening in a rapid pace, we want everything in a short period of time, we want an immediate results. If we see something online, we want it right at the moment, right at the time. If we get what we want, it’s completely OK, but if we don’t get it right at the moment we feel frustrated, angry and negative. which may also mean that we lack patience. so, what must we do to be patience? Let’s be aware of our emotions, our feelings, our actions and instead of giving ourselves pressure for immediate result let’s focus on being patience.

  • BE POSITIVE

A positive mindset is all that we need. It is really easy to be negative, to be judgemental, to get off the track when things don’t go as expected but if we can go deep down within ourselves and choose to be positive, no matter what happens we will still be ready to convert our expectations into a reality.

  • NO EXPECTATIONS

One of the best way to meet our expectations is simply by not having the expectation. But, what do we mean by this? Having no expectations may also mean that we are focused more on the process or journey rather than the results or end products. When we are focused on the result, we are not certain of attaining it but if we can focus on the process, it is true that we can meet our desired outcome.

  • KNOW THY SELF

If we want to meet our expectations then it is really important to know ourselves. Only if we know ourselves, we will be certain of what to expect out of life or anyone or anything. Most often we expect that which doesn’t meet our values and when we attain them, it is likely that they don’t make us happy. Some of the ways of knowing our inner-self can be through meditation, a deep sense of desire to know the self, being in the nature, mirror-talk, through writings, etc.

  • OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE

The human brain was conditioned to survive, it prevents us from taking new actions and going out of our comfort zone. But, in order to meet our expectations we must be able to move out of our comfort zone, be the highest version of ourselves, which eventually becomes our habit and we keep on striving to do new things everyday. The moment we step out of our comfort zone, it no longer becomes our comfort zone.

  • CHANGE PATTERN

Once we know our expectations we take action towards converting them into reality. And most of the time we keep on repeating the same action, same behaviour, same pattern again and again even if we are not producing the result. So, it is really important to be aware of our action, make necessary changes, keep updating and move towards meeting our expectations.

********

If we keep on comparing between expectation and reality, we will waste our whole life judging, complaining and making ourselves inferior. And most of the time, it is likely that we won’t be able to meet our expectation. Out of 100 time, it is likely that we can fail 90 times, but it is not about how many times we achieve or how many times we fail, rather it all comes to how we view it and how we set ourselves everyday in spite of our failure.

After all its neither about meeting our expectation nor compromising with our reality rather its all about ourselves, who we choose to become each and everyday, why we choose to become and how we progress, grow and strive each and every day no matter what.

MEETING DEADLINES: HOW TO BE FREAKING AWESOME IN FREAKING DEADLINES?

deadline

When was the last time you had to deal with a deadline and you were almost dead…..?Let’s not be so down, it’s really common for everyone😊. Every now and then we come up with this event called “deadline” which makes us almost dead, but what if we could thrive in these moments, shine in these moments and most of all what if we could be freaking awesome in these moments?

Here’s some of my views on dealing with deadline, if it resonates with you, keep it nor just skip it.😊

#FIRST PHASE: BEFORE THE DEADLINE

These ideas include what to do right after any project or assignment is assigned.

■ Set positive intentions:

Before starting anything we must have a positive intention. The moment we have  a positive intention it becomes easier for us to initiate any actions. Dr. Wayne Dyer explains more about  intentions in his book ” The power of intention”.

■ It’s all in our mind:

“He who thinks he can or he who thinks he can’t, both  are usually right. ” Anytime a deadline is given we must think, imagine and feel that we can make it on a time and mentally produce the results in our head.

■ Start with your why:

By simply asking questions like ” why is this project imp. to me? Why am I doing this? Why must it be completed?” etc. helps us know our why. If we can know our why, it becomes easier for us to stay the course  even during the tough times. Simon Sinek’s “start with your why” is a great book  for further research.

■  Prioritize:

The next step is to prioritize the task accordingly so that we won’t be rushing over important task in last hour. By simply  prioritizing the task according to it’s importance, value and time limit we can take action to meet the deadline.

■ Enjoy the process:

If we work hard, we might be able to give our 99% but if we work smart, we can go beyond 100%. One of the way to work smart is by simply enjoying the process. It is so much important for us to enjoy the process because it help us dive deep into the project, unleash our creativity  ever than before and in most of the cases it helps us solve the problem in a new and better approach.

■ Keep going:

20180502_124406

“KEEP GOING” stick on your wall, use as wallpaper, make your mantra, tattoo it or  whatever you do, you must just keep working on your project.  It’s so so easy  to procrastinate, to stay off the track, to complain, to make excuses but these habits are not going to serve us so we must have the attitude of  “keep going”.

■ Aim to finish before the deadline:

At one time or other we imagine about completing our task before the deadline and submitting it with our heads held high.  Although this might not happen in real life😅 but still it’s not a bad idea after all to plan to finish before the deadline.

***********

But even if we apply all these tips we won’t be able to meet the deadline before the targeted date. In this stage, it’s certain that the level of our fear,  frustration,  stress, anxiety,…… seems to be highly energetic(very high in my case). Anyway a good amount of stress is good for health.(being positive😅)

so here are some of the ideas on what to do when we have just 1/2 days left for the deadline.

■ Shut down your inner criticism:

Actually the last 1/2 days are quiet enough for the completion of our projects and assignments until we start focusing on our inner criticisms. The negative self criticizing voices like “I won’t be able to finish in time, I must have started earlier, I am lacking time, I am being irresponsible, blahblahblah…” drains our energy and doesn’t allow us to focus on our work. So, if we can simply quiet our inner criticism and just focus on our work then we can certainly meet the deadline even if it’s last hour.

■ Appreciate yourself:

Since the deadline is near, it’s obvious to fell pressured but why not we give some time to appreciate ourselves too, for our hard work, for our devotions, for our ideas, for our sleepless nights? “Seeking congratulation is a sign of immaturity but congratulating yourself is a sign of maturity. ” Let’s be grateful for what we have done and keep working on it.

■  Add some music

” The deadline is near…..”, so what?   Let’s just keep on persevering, keep giving our best and  even if we have to stay whole night why not make it something cool, something special? Let’s just tune in into our favourite playlist and rock the whole night  while still focusing on our work. A research has shown that adding music during the work can increase our productivity.

********

#SECOND PHASE: ON THE DAY OF DEADLINE

Most often, history is made within these last 1/2 days of deadline and the one  to finish are gifted with eye bags.  But unfortunately  some of us are still on the battlefield, even though we give our best, sometimes we won’t be able to meet the deadline. so here are some tips on what to do on the day of deadline if we are not done yet.

■  Meet your professor

“Its not the problem, it’s our reaction”. Everything in our life is less about our events, situations, circumstances and more about our reaction towards it. It’s OK that we didn’t meet up the deadline but that’s not only important, the important thing is how we react to it. In life many things might not happen as we expected so we must always be flexible and react to any situations or circumstances in a cool way. Let’s just accept the fact that we were unable to meet the deadline, head straight to our professor, talk with them and be ready for second deadline. After all, our professors are also humans with kind heart😊 and they already know how to deal with us in a best way. Just believe it.

■ Stay the positive side

We are unable to meet the deadline doesn’t mean we are reckless, irresponsible or procrastinator, it might also mean that the project we are working on needs some little extra time. Even though we are unable to meet the deadline we must stay the positive side and look towards the bright side.

■ Exercise:

A study has shown that exercise helps us reduce the stress. Since, we will be having a pressure for not meeting the deadline, exercise helps us decrease the level of our stress which in turn helps us cope with the day in a much better way.

■  Just pray:

If we are unable to meet the deadline, let’s just pray,  just think that some miracle is going to happen. Let’s be creative while doing this, easier done than said.😅

********

#FINAL PHASE: AFTER THE DEADLINE

Once the project is finished and deadline is meet, most often we feel relieved, relaxed and sleepy but  sometimes deep down, we feel low, unsatisfied and unhappy. We start hearing these voices like “we could have done better, we could have done this, we could have done that, we should have added this, blahblahblah……..” and it makes our energy drained.

This might be the signal that even if the deadline is meet and project is submitted, it might not be the end. Therefore, it is important to journal about the project, how we deal with it , what we did,  why we did, how we came up with the ideas? So that we can do better in upcoming projects. Our goal shouldn’t only be meeting the deadline but also to be happy while meeting the deadline. In fact, everyone can meet the deadline but everyone might not be happy meeting the deadline so, no matter what we must aim to be happy and only if we can  be happy then we can be freaking awesome in freaking deadline.
