When was the last time you had to deal with a deadline and you were almost dead…..?Let’s not be so down, it’s really common for everyone😊. Every now and then we come up with this event called “deadline” which makes us almost dead, but what if we could thrive in these moments, shine in these moments and most of all what if we could be freaking awesome in these moments?
Here’s some of my views on dealing with deadline, if it resonates with you, keep it nor just skip it.😊
#FIRST PHASE: BEFORE THE DEADLINE
These ideas include what to do right after any project or assignment is assigned.
■ Set positive intentions:
Before starting anything we must have a positive intention. The moment we have a positive intention it becomes easier for us to initiate any actions. Dr. Wayne Dyer explains more about intentions in his book ” The power of intention”.
■ It’s all in our mind:
“He who thinks he can or he who thinks he can’t, both are usually right. ” Anytime a deadline is given we must think, imagine and feel that we can make it on a time and mentally produce the results in our head.
■ Start with your why:
By simply asking questions like ” why is this project imp. to me? Why am I doing this? Why must it be completed?” etc. helps us know our why. If we can know our why, it becomes easier for us to stay the course even during the tough times. Simon Sinek’s “start with your why” is a great book for further research.
■ Prioritize:
The next step is to prioritize the task accordingly so that we won’t be rushing over important task in last hour. By simply prioritizing the task according to it’s importance, value and time limit we can take action to meet the deadline.
■ Enjoy the process:
If we work hard, we might be able to give our 99% but if we work smart, we can go beyond 100%. One of the way to work smart is by simply enjoying the process. It is so much important for us to enjoy the process because it help us dive deep into the project, unleash our creativity ever than before and in most of the cases it helps us solve the problem in a new and better approach.
■ Keep going:

“KEEP GOING” stick on your wall, use as wallpaper, make your mantra, tattoo it or whatever you do, you must just keep working on your project. It’s so so easy to procrastinate, to stay off the track, to complain, to make excuses but these habits are not going to serve us so we must have the attitude of “keep going”.
■ Aim to finish before the deadline:
At one time or other we imagine about completing our task before the deadline and submitting it with our heads held high. Although this might not happen in real life😅 but still it’s not a bad idea after all to plan to finish before the deadline.
***********
But even if we apply all these tips we won’t be able to meet the deadline before the targeted date. In this stage, it’s certain that the level of our fear, frustration, stress, anxiety,…… seems to be highly energetic(very high in my case). Anyway a good amount of stress is good for health.(being positive😅)
so here are some of the ideas on what to do when we have just 1/2 days left for the deadline.
■ Shut down your inner criticism:
Actually the last 1/2 days are quiet enough for the completion of our projects and assignments until we start focusing on our inner criticisms. The negative self criticizing voices like “I won’t be able to finish in time, I must have started earlier, I am lacking time, I am being irresponsible, blahblahblah…” drains our energy and doesn’t allow us to focus on our work. So, if we can simply quiet our inner criticism and just focus on our work then we can certainly meet the deadline even if it’s last hour.
■ Appreciate yourself:
Since the deadline is near, it’s obvious to fell pressured but why not we give some time to appreciate ourselves too, for our hard work, for our devotions, for our ideas, for our sleepless nights? “Seeking congratulation is a sign of immaturity but congratulating yourself is a sign of maturity. ” Let’s be grateful for what we have done and keep working on it.
■ Add some music
” The deadline is near…..”, so what? Let’s just keep on persevering, keep giving our best and even if we have to stay whole night why not make it something cool, something special? Let’s just tune in into our favourite playlist and rock the whole night while still focusing on our work. A research has shown that adding music during the work can increase our productivity.

#SECOND PHASE: ON THE DAY OF DEADLINE
Most often, history is made within these last 1/2 days of deadline and the one to finish are gifted with eye bags. But unfortunately some of us are still on the battlefield, even though we give our best, sometimes we won’t be able to meet the deadline. so here are some tips on what to do on the day of deadline if we are not done yet.
■ Meet your professor
“Its not the problem, it’s our reaction”. Everything in our life is less about our events, situations, circumstances and more about our reaction towards it. It’s OK that we didn’t meet up the deadline but that’s not only important, the important thing is how we react to it. In life many things might not happen as we expected so we must always be flexible and react to any situations or circumstances in a cool way. Let’s just accept the fact that we were unable to meet the deadline, head straight to our professor, talk with them and be ready for second deadline. After all, our professors are also humans with kind heart😊 and they already know how to deal with us in a best way. Just believe it.
■ Stay the positive side
We are unable to meet the deadline doesn’t mean we are reckless, irresponsible or procrastinator, it might also mean that the project we are working on needs some little extra time. Even though we are unable to meet the deadline we must stay the positive side and look towards the bright side.
■ Exercise:
A study has shown that exercise helps us reduce the stress. Since, we will be having a pressure for not meeting the deadline, exercise helps us decrease the level of our stress which in turn helps us cope with the day in a much better way.
■ Just pray:
If we are unable to meet the deadline, let’s just pray, just think that some miracle is going to happen. Let’s be creative while doing this, easier done than said.😅

#FINAL PHASE: AFTER THE DEADLINE
Once the project is finished and deadline is meet, most often we feel relieved, relaxed and sleepy but sometimes deep down, we feel low, unsatisfied and unhappy. We start hearing these voices like “we could have done better, we could have done this, we could have done that, we should have added this, blahblahblah……..” and it makes our energy drained.
This might be the signal that even if the deadline is meet and project is submitted, it might not be the end. Therefore, it is important to journal about the project, how we deal with it , what we did, why we did, how we came up with the ideas? So that we can do better in upcoming projects. Our goal shouldn’t only be meeting the deadline but also to be happy while meeting the deadline. In fact, everyone can meet the deadline but everyone might not be happy meeting the deadline so, no matter what we must aim to be happy and only if we can be happy then we can be freaking awesome in freaking deadline.
